Residential lead-based paint hazard compliance now mandatory The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are now enforcing regulations regarding the disclosure of lead-based paint and its hazards, in connection with residential housing sale and lease transactions. Failure to comply with the federal lead-based paint disclosure requirements may result in fines of up to $63,500 per transaction. Criminal prosecution and imprisonment of up to one year are also possible. |
